We track prop firm rule changes monthly so a mid-cycle surprise never breaches your account or defers your payout. Here’s everything material we logged in July 2026. For the mechanics behind these rules, see drawdown rules explained and consistency rules explained.
FTMO: risk cap now strictly enforced
FTMO’s 0.5–1% risk-per-trade limit on funded accounts — introduced earlier in 2026 — is now fully enforced with automated flagging. Traders reporting soft enforcement in Q2 confirm it’s now hard. The practical effect is unchanged from our FTMO review: concentrated, high-conviction sizing strategies don’t fit funded FTMO accounts anymore, which is why “FTMO alternatives” spiked as a search this month. If you risk ≤1% per trade, nothing changes for you.
Apex: the March overhaul has settled
Apex’s March 2026 restructure — one-time pricing, EOD/intraday drawdown choice, MAE removed, 50% consistency — is now three-plus months in, and community payout-time reports have improved versus the transition period in Q1. The trailing drawdown remains the account-killer it always was; the Topstep vs Apex decision is unchanged.
Two mid-tier firms tightened terms
Two mid-tier firms (outside our current top-rated set) quietly raised payout minimums and lengthened consistency-measurement windows in July. These are deferral-type changes, not denials — but they’re exactly the kind of retroactive tightening that, when it accelerates, precedes trouble. We flagged both in our tracker and are watching payout-processing times. The pattern to watch is covered in are prop firms legit?
No adverse changes at the stable firms
FundedNext, The5ers and Topstep logged no adverse rule changes this month. This is the boring, valuable outcome you’re paying a slightly higher fee for — rule stability is a feature, and it’s weighted directly in our methodology.
What to do this month
- Aggressive sizers on FTMO: confirm your strategy fits the 1% cap, or evaluate an alternative.
- Everyone: re-read your firm’s current payout-eligibility terms before your next request — check minimums and consistency windows against the payout guide.
- Withdraw every cycle. Unchanged, always.
